Muziek is
mijn medicijn.

Music is
my medicine.

I believe vulnerability has the power to influence the dynamics of our world. As our own shadow sides and those of society become less taboo, and as we collectively learn to feel the more difficult emotions — anger, grief, pain and fear — I believe we can come increasingly into contact with our source of unconditional love. Individually, collectively and societally.

Throughout the processes of healing my own trauma — a never-ending process — music is my medicine. I sing about the growing pains along my journey of discovery and the insights that emerge from them. Personal trauma, collective trauma and the pain of the Earth.

I also believe that music and singing together create genuine connection. This feels deeply welcome in these chaotic times of unraveling and collapse.

I am committed to developing greater awareness and understanding of my own privilege, rank and power, colonisation, genocides, intergenerational trauma, the oppression of human and non-human beings, overshoot and collapse, racism, … As this growing awareness takes root in fertile ground, I can increasingly allow it to inform my workshops and concerts.

Slowly sowing seeds and composing/composting the deep change I want to see in the world: creating community, bringing people together to sing, organising grief circles, … We don't have to do this alone.

Singing
together

When I perform, participation is not an activity alongside the performance — it is part of the performance itself. I sing, while also inviting the voices in the room. Sometimes through simple repeating lines, sometimes through improvisation. In this way, the boundary between performer and audience can become porous for a while.

Everything is an invitation. You can sing, listen, or simply be present. What emerges is shaped by the people who are there in that moment.

For me, singing together is a holy way of experiencing connection. Of making space for joy as well as for what is harder to carry.

We moeten dit niet alleen doen.

We don't have to do this alone.
